Old Chester - 2

I have always been drawn by this old road sign in Chester which was taken just over the road from the National Provincial Bank sign I blipped a few weeks ago.

This prompted me to look up the history of the A56.  The starting point is here in Chester from where it passes  through Frodsham, Lymm, Altrincham, Manchester, Bury and after bypassing Haslingden and Accrington it merges with the M65 between Blackburn and Burnley. It re-appears in Nelson then goes through Colne and ends in a roundabout at Broughton to the west of Skipton in North Yorkshire where it merges with the A59. Prior to the building of the motorways this was a major route in its own right and I like the fact that this old sign still marks the start of the road.

This was converted to mono even though there isn't much difference from the original because there was a distracting sticker on the drain and some colour on the left which didn't need to be there.
