Flower Friday. : : Mystery Wreath

It's not exactly a flower, but it is made from live greens from the Pacific Northwest. Some UPS drivers seem reluctant to drive up our steep driveway and so it must have been the one we saw toiling up the driveway with a big red box. Since we didn't recall ordering anything I rushed out to catch him in case it was meant for the neighbors with a similar address. It contained this beautiful wreath  but not a clue as to who sent it. Since we have been a bit ambivalent about even getting a Christmas tree the wreath was just the thing. It gets very hot on our front porch so I'm not sure it will last until Christmas but we will enjoy it as long as we can and mist it daily....

It was 47 degrees this morning when we set off for coffee at Cafe Frida this morning. We chose that location because they have a nice garden to sit in and it gets quite warm once the sun comes hits it. Poor Mamadou has made it so pleasant adding umbrellas, an open marquee/tent and outdoor heaters. Now they are talking again about closing everything down. This time they have divided up the state in regions, and will close regions as soon as their hospital intensive care beds drop to 15%. It's frustrating when the possibility of having to close your business is a moving target. There also seems to be growing burnout and fatigue amongst the health care workers. I heard a doctor on the radio the other day who admitted to feeling resentment toward his patients for not being careful enough even though he knew that it was unreasonable and he had never felt that way before. The current spike is being called a 'spike upon a spike' caused by the expected rise during the winter flu season compounded by the millions of people who insisted on traveling over the Thanksgiving  holiday.

I don't think any of the people I know who decided to forego the turkey and all the trimmings and tried to make the day somewhat meaningful with only the people in their immediate household appreciated it either...
It seems to me that you can only expect people to make huge sacrifices for the common good when when they feel that everyone else is doing the same....

Pedro was waiting for us when we got back from Cafe Frida and said that he and the guys will be here on Monday to start work on what we call 'the white wall', the final bit of fencing left. While we contemplated the newly leveled  planting area, Spike rolled contentedly in the fluffy planting soil  and then popped through the open bedroom door onto our bed.

I think our drains have reached their quotient of dog hair because water was leaking from under the washing machine this morning. The pipe reamer guy is coming on Sunday....all work and no Sabbath around here these days.
