Winter colours

Our English teacher at school once set 'Winter Colours' as a composition topic. We all  drooled on about the white snow, the bare black branches, the bright red and green of berried holly. She was disappointed, she had hoped we would notice some more subtle tints. But now I see them; the heather purple of the alder catkins and the  saffron orange of the wax cap, set against the silver bark of the birch.

And spot the little winking fungal face as a bonus.
