If you can't beat them...

A tale of two bridges

Or should that be three?

Owing to being in tier two Kanyl and I can't meet indoors, not even in his garden.  So we are going for walks which serve two purposes one is it gives us time to talk and the other advantage is it is helping to strengthen his legs which have had little or no exercise since February.

You are thinking "can't he count there are only two bridges".  You are correct there are only two in the blip.  I am standing on the third.  Until the 1970s the low bridge in the background carried all the traffic into the Lakes and then on into West Cumbria.  Then the A66 was built producing the concrete monstrosity.

The third bridge where I am standing was a railway bridge but the line was closed in 1971.  The track from Threlkeld to Keswick became a walking and mountain bike route until 2015.  Along came Storm Desmond doing lots of damage and taking out some of the bridges.  Since then work has been almost continuous the bridges are restored and instead of the rough gravel path a smooth tarmac surface.  It has cost millions and opened earlier this month.
