Life's Little Moments

The Other Woman

This is my hubs' other love, his 1970 (and 1/2) Camaro.  When we first met, and for the first almost 19 years of our marriage, it was ...a mess.  It had been mostly stripped of paint, doors off, bumpers "bumped", etc.  When we had our house build in 2001, we had an extra garage bay added for the specific purpose of housing this car.  The plan being that Hubs would lovingly restore her to her former glory.  Well, life often has other plans and the years passed with no progress.

Fast forward to early 2019.  After much discussion about the eventual fate of the Camaro, Hubs let me talk him into having the body professionally restored.  Several months into that process, he was unexpectedly laid off from work.  Not ideal timing for a major car restoration, but we were in too deep at that point and, frankly, I could not see any reason to stop the job.  So after nearly a year at the restoration shop, this summer my Hubs drove his baby home.  It was the first time the car had been on the road in at least 30 years and the smile on Hubs face told the story.

Thanks to Covid, Hubs' unemployment has lasted longer than we had expected, but he has been taking time this fall to do some mechanical work on the car which keeps him busy.  Today when I walked through the garage, I stopped to look at the car - it's really quite beautiful, I must admit.  And as I was looking at the old original Camaro emblem over the front bumper, I realized that it needed to be photographed.

Macro lens, flash with small diffuser, a square crop and ... voila!  Blip!

I have enjoyed long phone conversations today with my parents and besties Ellen and Kura.  It was good to catch up with everyone.  As Covid cases in all our areas continue to climb, we are all amping up our personal precautions.

The only dark spot of the day was that when Hubs went to the care facility for his weekly in-person visit with his mom, he was told that they were not letting anyone in as they'd just gotten the first positive case within the long-term care resident population.  As a result, even the "designated caregivers" are not being allowed in the facility.  We will learn more tomorrow.  It is unnerving since they have gone all this time without a single case in this most fragile population; and they have been testing all staff every two days for the past 2 weeks.  I makes me wonder if it was a family Designated Caregiver who may have brought the infection in - and if so, how absolutely horrible it must be to have brought something potentially lethal to your loved one.  I can't even imagine.

So, please don't let up on masks, hand washing, social distancing.  It's hard, but we can do this.  As long as we don't run out of chocolate...
