Sign of the times.

Wet and horrible today. Today I drove down to the council offices at Kilmory in Lochgilphead to meet the new member of staff who's going to be doing some of the gardening work at the new Childrens' Outdoor Nursery. This man is employed as a janitor and knows nothing about gardening, but is keen to give it a go. I'd picked today as the forecast said it would be the best day of the week. Unfortunately it was the worst day of the week - so far! The only good thing about it was that it stopped raining just before I reached Lochgilphead, tho' it was very windy.

I took the opportunity for another quick scoot around the main garden. It's such a shame that Argyll and Bute Council, who bought ‘Kilmory Castle’ estate as their Head Office in 1974, have allowed this wonderful garden to go to pot. I'm sure they’d cite a lack of funds, but sorry, I don't consider that an excuse. There’s always a way. The garden was redesigned by William Hooker in 1830, as this Blip picture shows, and he'll have been spinning in his grave for quite some time now. If I lived a bit closer - it's a 40 mile drive - I would start a 'Save Kilmory Garden' group and get started! Big moan to the Council coming up!

Contractors who have working – maybe that’s not the right word! – on site for some unfathomable reason have turned the place into a quagmire, chopping back rhododendrons and then dumping mud on top of the prunings! I think they were supposed to be improving the paths within the Childrens’ Nursery area. The new janitor found this sign buried under the mud. How do people like this ever get work! A rather unpleasant drive home in the dark and wet, half of it behind a Land-Rover and trailer, which surprisingly turned into Lidl’s car park when he got to Oban!

The other day Blipper Tryfan46 showed a picture of the River Beult, which he said was actually pronounced ‘Belt’. This caused me to sit down and write a limerick!

Limerick of the Day:

On the tree covered banks of the Beult
Sat a dispossessed Boer from the veult.
While he feigned to be fishing
He found himself wishing
That somebody knew how he feult!
