Street level

Another shot from yesterday.  I don't really understand why London street levels have risen over the centuries, but the door on the right in St John's Gate (extra) was rebuilt in 1866 to be a normal height.  Whereas the door on the left is at its original 16th century height.  It's not that the Tudors were all dwarves, but that the street level is at least a meter higher than it was then.
