Covidiots

Car service day. I was there bright and early at 08:31.

Only one person at a time is allowed into the office. Masks required, obviously. Hand gel by the door. Excellent. It is a small space.

One guy was there before me, so I had to wait outside while he got sorted out. He had his mask on, but was leaning over the receptionist’s desk close enough to get his tongue in her mouth. They have a perspex barrier at her desk, but they have a gap in it intended for passing car keys etc (and not for talking through).

I despair.

We have now had months of constant messaging about distancing, masks and hygiene. How thick can people be?

Around here the 7 day infection rate is about 135 per 100k, up dramatically from 105 just 2 weeks ago. It had dropped to that from about 145 after we were put in level 3.

Somewhere like Ingolstadt in Bavaria is running at around 220. Lockdown for Christmas.

Wales is at 530, up from 377 yesterday. Healthcare meltdown for Christmas.

“Schools” is a common cry. Well the Scottish Government has an expert group which meets to review what is going on and give advice. It is stuffed full of professors and other public health folks. It met at the beginning of the month to discuss schools and school holidays. It concluded there is no evidence at all to suggest schools play any significant role in transmission.

(By the way, that does not mean I am unsympathetic to the frontline role which school staff are stuck in.)
