Looks Beautiful but stay inside!

Snow was falling yesterday, and even after midnight it continued drifting down and looking very pretty. However, we woke up this morning to hear raindrops hitting the window. Outside it still looked generally lovely but there were some grey slushy puddles visible.
We were feeling a little "cabin fever" so when the rain stopped we went out for some fresh air. The pretty white snow turned out to be 5cm deep  slush. As you can see in today’s blip it still looks lovely but I can promise you walking through it was no fun.
The thin skim of whiteness shows up features that are not usually visible and gives a new perspective on the countryside.  The road is our back way to the shops. It’s a bit longer than our usual route and includes 3 km of gravel roads, which in these conditions can turn very muddy, and be tricky to drive on.
In a normal year the run up to Christmas is full of life. There are Christmas markets to visit, several music concerts, church, and some serious shopping, not to mention a whole lot of socialising. With none of that going on the combination of grey weather, very short days, and having to stay home as much as possible, is proving a bit of a downer.
That can be balanced by thinking of all the good things we have! A warm and dry house, as much food as we could possibly need, our family and friends staying healthy, activities to keep us busy, as well as media to lounge around and watch if we don’t feel like being busy. Crammed bookshelves! We have plenty of flour so we can bake endless bread, cakes and biscuits. The larder is, as always, full and our wood supply is secure. Jan is here, both sharing and creating what is basically a very lovely life!  And then there’s Blipfoto with so many good pictures, words, and people…
We are so fortunate!
