Cosplay

A rather alarming if ever popular hobby in Japan, Cosplay is literally "Costume Play." Dressing up and pretending to be a fictional character, usually a sci-fi, comic book, or anime character.

There was a gathering of about 50 enthusiasts hanging around a popular cafe area. Most of the time seemed to be spent striking a pose and taking photo's of each other - there was some serious looking camera kit there too; if something's worth doing here it's almost always overdone ;)

It's not what you spend but how you wear it that counts.
