The Old Forge (Friday 18th December 2020)

Colour in the garden is rare at the moment but these fuchsias outside the kitchen window are providing some cheer. I brought them into the porch to photograph and they are going over now, but I did photograph them in situ at the start of the month when I blipped a robin instead. With thanks to BikerBear for Flower Friday.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - I Want You Back (1971)
Berry Gordy abandoned all his Detroit-based artists in 1972 when he completed his move to Hollywood and tried to break into the movie business. One of his first LA discoveries were the Jackson Five, who had a hit with I Want You Back in 1969, and the song was recorded by other Motown artists such as Jimmy Ruffin and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. Martha Reeves stayed in Detroit after the split but did make a rare trip to LA in 1971 to record this. Although still touring with the current versions of the Vandellas most of her albums had other backing singers such as the Andantes standing in. In Los Angeles she had the Blackberries, one of the city's top session vocal groups, who sing on this track, from her album Black Magic, and also a B-side single.
