chocalho

This evening 5 Samba Sisters in masks, thermals and waterproofs played together (but apart) for 2 whole hours on a sports field in Langholm. It was cold, and at times it was very, very wet, but we were so happy to be playing drums together again that we didn't care.

The occasion was an event called "Light up Langholm" which was a kind of lantern parade. Entry was by booking only, with participants (mostly families) given time slots and keeping 4 metres apart. There was colourful floodlighting, laser lights, and a path around the field marked out with electric tea lights. Everything was so well organised, and the folk of Langholm must be super hardy because they all wandered past us in the rain and wind looking as cheerful as we were.

Here is Saskia with her chocalho, a percussion instrument which requires a lot of energy to play properly :-)

It was an almost 100 mile round trip for me (we all had to travel separately because of Covid restrictions) but well worth it.

Who knows when we will get to do this again?
