Rule checking

Hannah explored the lanes and cliffs while I worked and later we revisited the delightful village of Beer for a pub meal. It was interesting that the pub staff wanted to see identification to verify our home addresses, guarding against people who have fled Tier 4 areas, to whom they said they would have to block entry. I’ve been in the area for two weeks and my driving licence states my home address (ignoring the fact that I can’t get into said premises) as Cambridge, which was all fine as Cambridge is in the same tier.

Our burgers were somewhat marred by thinking about rule changes. My plan has been to return to Devon after the (now much reduced) Christmas bubble event, but it’s hard to plan with confidence as everywhere is liable to tighten up within days, even if movements are currently permitted. In Tier 4, which we all may be in soon, the rules grant exceptions around travel and accommodation for those in unusual circumstances. It seems that ‘where guests are unable to return to their main residence’ or need to ‘use that guest accommodation as their main residence’, it’s still possible to make bookings and find somewhere to stay. Another day of learning to go with the flow in Blighty.
