Dampfsäg

Letting off steam or better, Luna and I doing the evening dog walk from the Dampfsäg in our parish capital, Sontheim. Events location for weddings, conferences, exhibitions, festivals, music, fortnightly cinema, weekly organic indoor market, all things that have been restricted to various degrees at various times.

Had just been to the local "corner shop" a sub-branch of Germany's massive Edeka supermarket concern. Parish council has fought for years to keep the facility open, not easy given we have about 2,500 inhabitants in two villages and so many younger people work in nearby Mindelheim and Memmingen where this naturally a huge choice including of course the discount leaders Aldi & Lidl. For the elderly the local shop is a godsend particularly in these Corona times.

The quality of fresh fruit & veg is excellent and choice of products very good. If you stick to own brand everyday products, the prices are very good. Really ought to use it more. It also has separate in-store shops of a local butcher and baker.

Beginning to really notice the shortening days now.

Dampfsäg = Steam Saw Mill. It is a uniquely constructed wooden hall, one of the only such remaining industrial buildings in southern Germany and I believe under protection order.
