Bright-Eyed And Bushy-Tailed

Around the rugged oak the ragged rascals ran.

I first saw these squirrels chasing one another before lunch. When we went on our late afternoon walk they were still at it. There are three of them, as can be seen in my first extra.

I think this is courtship behaviour and possibly two males trying to prove themselves to a female who is encouraging them. The second extra looks as though a pair could be mating. The first male to mate with the female will leave a waxy plug inside her which will repel sperm from any other male who mates with her subsequently.
