The Unfinished
This is the reason we went to Hong Kong.... the school Symphony Orchestra has been touring for the half term week and as we have two sons in the orchestra, one who is the principal trumpeter and one who is the principal clarinettist, we decided it was an opportunity not to be missed.
The tour was very generously sponsored by parents from Hong Kong of boys at the school, and their kindness and organisation made it all possible. We went to give support and to enjoy the sights of Hong Kong. Their hospitality was overwhelming, and many new friendships were formed.
Here is Adam, the clarinettist playing Schubert's 'unfinished' symphony - Symphony No. 8 in B minor. If anyone knows this piece of music you may recall that in the first movement there is a very beautiful duet between a clarinet and an oboe, which repeats throughout the piece. I am pretty useless don't know how to link up these comments to the music or else I would have done so.
I was fortunate to be sitting in the audience with him in my direct sights, and cranking up the ISO's I quickly took the shot - no flash was allowed in the cathedral where they were performing and I was not able to get up from my seat. This performance included some guest musicians from a local Hong Kong school.
So after 'the unfinished' we are now finished - and now head back home to England. It has been an unforgettable experience for both parents and boys.
