In memoriam

I saw this in a friend's antique shop window just before Christmas. Transaction done at arm's length through the shop doorway. We are still being super cautious about keeping each other alive, since so much of society seems not to give a hoot for its own security, let alone anyone else's.

It's a postcard reproducing a stamp designed by Stafford Cliff and issued by the Post Office on 9th May 1979, celebrating the direct elections to what was then the European Assembly. Those were the days when Britain took itself seriously as a contributor to world affairs, and was taken seriously by others. Neither is now the case, demonstrably.
