Jagdhütte

Hunter's Lodge on a very grey, dark day and this in the evening just before the sun set which we didn't get to see. Not even a bit of the snow that bypassed us and went north-east around Munich. Now looks like it is simply going to be cool (+/-0°C daytime max) for the week while northern Germany robs Bavaria of its snow.

Although it was nearly dusk and the favourite time for hunters to be up on their high chairs, most seem to stop in January after the peak season in the run up to Christmas & New Year to fulfil the demand. From 15th January much of the shooting legally stops to allow the deer to conserve energy over the hardest winter months. The hunters we know will usually feed them too with hay and/or treats such as marinated chestnuts, maize, cereals and apple pressings (leftovers after juicing).

The hunters I know spend 80-90% looking after the animals on their patch and are constantly fighting against the pressure by forest owners to increase their quotas. It's more a lifestyle than a sport here.

PS Those that make the mistake of following my posts, please excuse the increased amount of back-bliping I will be doing this year. I need to get lots of holes in the last 67 years filled. So please ignore any of those Blip messages ".....has just reached a new milestone". Sometimes it feels like a millstone, but I have a mission to accomplish.
