Hope Springs Eternal

One of the bones I have to pick with computer technology is they try to cram too many functions onto one small keyboard, and for the third time in as many months, I have inadvertently erased everything I just wrote. It was pretty boring anyway... Spike seems to like to pose for pictures and obligingly jumped into the frame  when I was trying to compose a shot of the bottom of the venerable olive tree. At least he picked a place that is relatively free of burned leaves and soot.

We did have a little field trip to  CalFlora, a nursery that specializes in native plants. We bought a ceanothus and a manzanita which were smaller than we would have liked but apparently since Covid restrictions began, everybody has been  taking care of their gardens and buying out all their plants! We got a 10% discount because our garden burned down....

They (I really don't know who 'they' is ) came and knocked down the brick facade and chimney still standing at Janet and Paul's house next door. John talked to them when he was getting the newspaper and they were surveying the scene. When we left for the nursery there was nothing but more rubble where the chimney had stood. They must have had the chimney wrecking  machine available today, although they didn't knock down the chimney on the other side of us.

Strange and unpredictable are the ways of the bureaucracy....
