Well, I did not see that coming.

I am still in shock.

I knew something was being planned. I guess I was focussed more on the Georgia votes.

I have seen images like that from parliaments in Ukraine and Turkey and the other Georgia, but the USA…

I have tried to imagine the Republicans I knew and worked with in the 70s supporting the Trump Regime… but it is weird.

I suppose politics there can be tribal just like here. You might be a Tory voter and hate Johnson, but could never switch to Labour or SNP. You identify as Tory in spite of it all.

Mind you, Tories I knew in the 70s would not recognise the party today with its adoption of the 1970s National Front policies. Enoch Powell pointed the way.

What will happen next? It is not over yet.

Perhaps it was having my cage rattled by events in Washington DC, but today it has been an uphill battle to stay positive. The usual ways of dealing with things only worked while I did them, and then…

Anyway. I resorted to crowdporn eventually.* Does anyone else get a guilty little kick out of seeing crowds. You know, the way things used to be. At a gig. At a sporting event. On a train?

Crowds

The Blip is from my first visit to DC, for a conference. Junior and the Last Wife came along, courtesy of my airmiles, and we also visited friends of hers in New York City.

It was a real adventure. Junior was just 2.5 years old. I have a great photo somewhere of him in nappies and a t-shirt in front of the White House. Our hotel was just around the corner (Willard on Pennsylvania Ave) and I had taken him for a walk so that she could sleep off some jet lag.

 * Blippers in Australia, New Zealand & Taiwan etc can skip this bit.
