A new hike

Wednesday
Since this was Laura’s last full day with us before returning to Kuwait tomorrow, we decided we wanted to do something different to our usual walks. One place which has come up several times on a Facebook Cincinnati hiking group is the Pinnacles near Berea Kentucky, but at a two hour drive, it requires a full day. The area is maintained by Berea College, a private liberal arts college. There are five lookout areas to explore, West Pinnacle, East Pinnacle, Indian Fort Lookout, Eagles Nest and Buzzards Roost. We did three of them, West Pinnacle, Indian Fort Lookout and Eagles Nest, a total of 6 miles. Though it would obviously look better in sunshine and blue skies, or in Spring or especially Fall, the views were still great,, and it made for a great hike, with some changes in elevation and the odd little scramble, interspersed with gentler stretches. Unfortunately, while we were hiking and enjoying nature, chaotic and unbelievable events were developing at the Capitol. We discovered this at one point when Roger was referring to the AllTrails app on his phone to make sure we were going the right way, and a message popped up from one of his News feeds. This placed a slight damper on the rest of our walk, and of course we were listening to the news in the car all the way home. Laura had said she wanted to treat us to dinner before she went back, but we decided to play it safe and order in. After dinner we played a few rounds of Boggle, before turning in for the night, feeling quite tired after a fairly early start and our exertions.
