A bad week

I'm so glad that week has now finished as it was horrendous. As a staff, we sent our Section 44 letters into our head on Saturday night so most of Sunday was spent in discussions on Google meet about how this would be managed. Boris then did his usual U turn on Monday night and 'closed ' all the schools. A great decision at a great time - not - this was too late and totally ridiculous after all the children had returned from the holidays and mixed for a day. I'm spotting a pattern with this government's response during this pandemic.
The education secretary, Gav, then made the wonderful announcement that parents should contact Ofsted if they're unhappy with online learning. It's so nice to have such a supportive minister working on our behalf.
Does he not realise that most schools have in excess of 50% of pupils in the classroom as there are so many occupations now classed as key workers? Does he not realise that we are expected to not only teach these children (and plan and mark their work) but we are also expected to teach online lessons to the children at home (and plan, mark and upload their work). All while working without any PPE in the classroom. Most evenings this week I've been working until 11.30 (11.50 one night) after leaving school just before 6.30 (because the cleaners have kicked me out) and having tea and a short rest before starting again.
So please, if you read in the papers that schools are closed - ignore it. If you read that teachers are sitting at home doing nothing - ignore it. We're working harder than ever before and I'm sick to death of all the teacher bashing that I come across in the press.
