Better Than The Football

But then again almost anything would have been better than the football. All the signs were there that this was a potential cup upset. Away from home against a team that have already had a good run to get this far and with a great record at set pieces, Leeds managed to get it catastrophically wrong against Crawley. Yes, Leeds were missing a key player, centre forward Bamford, whose role in the team, above simply scoring goals, was made much clearer in his absence. And yes they should have had a penalty in the first half which would have been given if VAR was used in the FA Cup. But Bielsa seemed to get it all wrong in the second half - his substitutions disrupted the defence, playing the second string keeper turned into a nightmare as he should surely have kept out the first two goals and the team's formation, tactics and attitude just seemed all wrong. Was it because Bielsa thinks the FA Cup is just a distraction from league business? Good as it is to be back in the top flight, a good run in the FA Cup is surely worth a better effort than today's abysmal showing. Another defeat to lower league opposition to join a long list stretching back, at least in my own memories, to Colchester fifty years ago.
