Just hatched baby turtle on the beach at Mirissa

I came across this tiny little baby turtle at the top of the beach under the palm trees. I'd seen a couple of people gathered around a couple of stakes in the grounds and eventually deduced that this marked where the eggs had been buried at some earlier time.

Today was the day it hatched and headed down the beach to go to sea. It was quite a struggle and even when it reached the waves it kept being pushed back up the beach before it tried again.

I felt very lucky to have been able to see such a site despite this now being a tourist area. I fear the turtles won't be able to successfully lay their eggs for much longer.
