‘Operation Julie’ front door.

L3 day 22 A walk around the local area. A house I pass on the way to the station has an interesting story from the 1970’s when it was in the news ( we did not live near then). All the substantial houses in Seymour Road, Hampton Wick, were built in the 1880’s - some were 12 room houses, all now divided into flats and four were more ‘modest’ 8 room houses which are still single dwellings. No 23 known as Penryn, next to the vicarage of St John the Baptist, was the subject of Operation Julie a UK police investigation, involving 11 police forces, into the production of illicit LSD. It was under surveillance from October 1976 to March 1977. Police had originally been monitoring a remote house in Wales which they suspected housed a drug factory. They suspected that Penryn was somehow involved as part of the distribution network and were therefore surprised to find that it contained a complete LSD production facility in the attic!
