The Mercat Cross

The Mercat Cross resides in the Castlegate at the east end of Union St. it was built in 1686 and was originally a place where merchants would gather, and later became the focal point of many town events such as executions, announcements and proclamations.
My afternoon dog walk took me here down a deserted, but pleasingly ice free Union Street. This was Brodie’s first walk down town, and he appeared suitably unimpressed. I think he’d have preferred the beach or park.
