Steep

This narrow lane leads steeply uphill to one of our favourite walking spots,  the Cairn woods. I love the Victorian  handrails and ditch walling that still survive.  These lanes were established in the 1880s to provide access to the Cairn Pleasure Grounds, as they were called then. The Victorians loved fresh air!
The town is in a valley so I have to walk down one steep side and then up the other if I want to reach this walk. Allen the dog loved it as he has never used this lane before and there was plenty for him to explore.
Our town is criss crossed by lots of old narrow paths that run between the harbour and the High St. Legend has it that they are old smugglers paths , used to spirit away booty landed at night on our remote coastline.
