Out

Started the day with a lie in and a phone chat and crossword with K before we got up, then did my new exercises. Was sunnier than I expected so decided to make the most of it and get out for a walk...around the Meadows, down via the farmers’ market to the west end and along the water of leith to Stockbridge, where I saw this sign in Mellis’ cheese shop, then home. On the way I listened to the new book group book, Fleishman is in trouble (a change to be reading a book about life from a man's perspective although that review suggests things will change), and then M phoned and I sat on a bench by the rushing water of leith and chatted to her. We caught up on lots of family news and plans and it was lovely to chat. By the time I headed back up over the bridges home my hip was starting to be quite sore again...good benchmark to measure progress against.
Decided to do some baking and made a lemon, poppyseed and blueberry Bundt cake (extra) which turned out very light and tasty....don’t know why a Bundt tin/shape is so appealing in a cake but it is.
A phoned...poor thing was in pieces as she’d just come back from the vet and she’s going to have to put her cat to sleep....after having had her 19 years. She was so upset, even though she knows Missy’s very old and ill, and now has a mass in her gut and won’t survive much longer anyway. She got her for her 11th birthday and so her grief is partly about the length of their relationship and all the times they’ve spent together linking her back to her childhood. I so wanted to be there to give her a hug, rather than just listening to her quiet sobs on the phone.
