Santa sheep

We're trying to walk from home during lockdown 3 - no real need to drive anywhere - however tempting. Today we had an early start, walked along the Keswick/Threlkeld railway line (totally deserted today) and then up the lower slopes of Blencathra, which gave us our snow fix. Yesterday's rain fell as snow from about 800'.

Navigation was extremely difficult, as the paths were covered in snow, and the path we were following had no cairns. Add to that the very low clouds, we got to about 2300', and realised that there would be no views from the top, so headed back home.

We encountered a few flocks of Herdwicks on the way down, who were struggling to get through the snow to eat the grass. We brushed some snow away to expose grass for them - but I did love this one, with it's snowy beard.

The extra shows the view with the same Herdy from the same spot.

Although we didn't get to the top, we still covered 11 miles. Had a fabulous day!
