Where it all began

Crocus suaveolens aka Crocus imperati ssp suaveolens.   It was with the form of Crocus imperati named 'de Jager' that my journey with species crocus began back in 1988.   I think they cost me 50p per bulb at that time and you can still buy them from specialists now but expect to pay at least double that.    I showed the first flower on Christmas Day and now the main flush is just beginning.  I think they look best half open like this which shows the contrast between the inner and outer petals.   This is a plant that will do fine outside in UK gardens given a little shelter from the worst weather.   These are plants that I raised from seed, very similar to that original clone.

A quiet Sunday at home apart from a lovely bike ride to Dysynni Bridge and back with Jamie.   The grey weather was at least bright but did not invite photography like the sunshine does.
