Distraught Parents

A family was walking high up on the ice fields today when they had a really close call!  Young Ben was running ahead when he slipped and fell into a large crevasse which was much too deep for his parents to reach him. Fortunately for the young boy, his father was well prepared and carried a PBL with him (personal locator beacon) which he quickly activated as an "emergency" and marked their location. The rescue team was quickly dispatched & arrived on the scene, as shown here by the News Chopper 12 crew who captured this aerial shot as the rescuers prepared to lower a rope and harness down to the young boy. The boy was fortunate to have landed in deep snow, so was uninjured in the fall and was able to put the harness on, after which he was pulled to safety.  He was taken to the nearest hospital where he was cleared to be released. The family was most grateful for the prompt response of the rescue workers as well as grateful that their son was uninjured. A lesson to us all to be alert & prepared when on the ice and snow. :)
