On the Penguin Trail

I went out on search for some more Penguins. First stop was Willowbank Wildlife Reserve which isn't far from were we live and that were I found Kiwiama: Top Left. After that seeing the wind wasn't too strong then I made my way to New Brighton were I Found Aztec Floral Fusion: Top Right. There other six little waddles I found in the New Brighton library.

Kiwiama: Created by Jane Downes
Design Inspiration
The ‘Kiwiama’ penguin is draped in a Feather Cloak, Kahu Huruhuru, for warmth and protection, the colour red symbolising power, sacredness and prestige. The triangular pattern, Aronui, of the Taniko border on the shoulder of the cloak refers to the pursuit of knowledge about the natural world. This modern-day cloak was constructed from galvanised steel to show the level of protection we now place the hoiho under. ‘Kiwiama’ is a play on words referring to the kiwi, our most protected bird, and to historical steel armour.

Aztec Floral Fusion: Created by Gemma Rae Dudson
Design Inspiration
This design has splashes of beautiful bright colours which peek through varying black Aztec, paisley, and floral patterns. This is a design Gemma Rae created for a body painting piece – it was so effective with its contrasting detail that she thought it would look amazing on one of the penguins. The closer you get the more intricate details you’ll find!

Here is a link to the waddles created by school children and a map were they are all found.

I will be going to Akaroa for a few days and will catch you all when I return.
