Kiwi Summer... Low Tide at Marahau

This morning I made a quick trip to Marahau. The low tide had exposed the extensive tidal flats. The island to the left is Fisherman’s Island in the Abel Tasman National Park. In the distance the tiny figures are folk preparing to go kayaking. Their kayaks and gear was transported to the water by tractor and trailer. Water taxis are also towed on their trailers by tractors out to where the water is deep enough to launch them. It’s an unusual and intriguing experience to be a passenger. When returning to Marahau at high tide the water taxis, complete with passengers, are loaded onto their trailers at the boat ramp and towed along the road by tractors back to the Aquataxi headquarters. Great fun!
