Disco Duck

Another miserable day weather wise. Did some weight training this morning, but neither Mrs C or I could summon up any enthusiasm to go for a walk later.
An indication of how disinclined we were to venture outside, is that we actually chose to tackle some of the drawers and cupboards in the kitchen! This was a job we started in the first lockdown but had abandoned once the nice weather came along. Truth be told, some of the cupboards we did last March should probably be done again, but we decided we would pick up where we left off. Threw away a few things we no longer used and replaced the cutlery and some of the utensils with new ones we’d bought last year, but had said we wouldn’t use until the drawers had been tidied and cleaned.
One thing we did come across was this little butter knife with its unusual duck handle. I’m fairly certain we found it whilst clearing the in-laws house about five years ago and hung on to it because of its quirkiness. A bit of research has revealed it is Japanese and would have been part of a set of six. A matching toast rack was also available. However, it has languished in our cutlery drawer since it’s discovery, it isn’t actually that practical to use and, without the rest of the set, is probably worthless.
But I still like the look of it. Rather than keeping it hidden away in the drawer, we have opted to put it on display so we can at least appreciate it aesthetically.
And who knows - if all our new cutlery ends up in the dishwasher and I have an overwhelming desire for a round of toast, it may actually find itself being used to spread some butter again!!
