The Path to the Creek

Today has been cold, but with plenty of bright sunshine. Walking along this path to the creek you could feel the strengh and presence of the mighty oak trees. Their wood was once extensively used for shipbuilding, and was prized for its strength and durability. Ships of the Royal Navy were  constructed from oak until the middle of the 19th century. The wood from the oak was also used to make barrels in which wine, spirits and other provisions were carried aboard ships. Today, the oak is one of the finest  trees in our countryside and attracts a wealth of wildlife.
