The Sponge

The quarry acts like a sponge, except that at the moment it's totally saturated and can't hold any more water, which means that when more rain falls, it drains straight out. This happens so seldom that there's no natural watercourse. Instead, the water finds its way down the paths, which are being eroded away more quickly than I've ever known.

I'm hoping we're going to see a bumper crop of bog cotton in the spring.
