The Hill We Climb

It continued to rain but consistently rather than heavily and it's been nothing like as bad over the last few days as the forecast had predicted. Thankfully, the river here has coped and we've avoided the flooding that was expected. I'd feared a lot worse.

The 'path' up beside Backstone Beck turned into an exciting climb today. With the easy way often submerged and the rocks greasy, it made for a challenging scramble in places. I love stopping and watching the flow of water when the beck is in spate. After the inauguration yesterday and especially after hearing young Amanda Gorman read her wonderful poem, I could imagine that all the toxins of the last four years were being purged from the earth. If only it were that simple.
