The Ring of Dire....

I thought I'd celebrate Burns Night, with one of his lesser poems, 'Tae a Muckle Stane' (translated for all you non-Scots out there as, 'To A Rather Large Stone'.)

Rabbie Burns used to take his ladies up the Pentlands (so to speak) which is where this monument was built thousands of seconds years ago...

The Celts, the Picts, the Viking hordes,
Whose genes are in my bones,
Once built upon this noble land
Great rings of standing stones.

These monoliths, so vast in size,
Aligned to sun and moon,
That ancient man might tell the time...
'Oh look, it's half past June!'
