Gillian Day

BACKBLIP

Conscious of the fact that we are not just us two on holiday and its not just about all I want to do I said to Gillian - please choose a day when its all arranged by you.  Well!  It was fabulous.  She has a friend called Franny (name made up by us) who is Portuguese businessman who owns a couple of museums in Lisbon and one of the items on Gilliam's itinerary was here.

First though she chose our breakfast spot sitting outdoors at Audrey's Cafe which we have been to before and is first class - Good one G.  Onward, walking uphill through winding streets with the iconic trams passing us by stopping at Miradoura ......... (can't recall the name) it overlooks the 25th April bridge and over to Big Jesus over the river.  A blues band was playing as we sat and had a mid morning drink.

Lunch time beckoned and it was a little known gem of a place, run by nuns called Cantina das Feiras.  Food was cheap and traditional Portuguese.  We loved it.  Afterwards we passed by Pink Street in Barrio Alto (party central) and S and I wanted to look in the Vintage Bar Pensao Amor, a former brothel and burlesque establishment.  It was amazing, little rooms off stairways with the names and paintings of the ladies who would be offering their services inside....  Gillian wouldn't come in the place, wanted to wait outside.  There was no one inside apart from us.  The decor was vintage and stunning.  I could imagine plenty action going on here back in the day......

Stopped off at one of our favourite Lisbon Cafes, Comoba, the coffee and food is first class.

Next  was the Marionette museum, in a former convent and another top choice from Gillian.  It was in Estrella area of Lisbon which has a stunning park so after the museum we cooled off in the shade of the trees in the park.  We got a trade back to Commercio, then began the climb uphill to Graca to our apartment.  The day was another success and even better going to places in Lisbon we hadn't been to before, apart from Comoba and Audrey's.
