Wide Wednesday: About the House

Bobsblips has given us a Widwed challenge this week which is very appropriate for lockdown - "About the House". So I popped on the fisheye lens and wandered round inside, looking for a suitable shot. We're lucky to live in quite an old house (built 1904) with plenty of character. This shows the landing on the first floor (second floor if you're American, I believe) showing the staircase leading up to the attic.

We particularly like the spindles for the banister rails, made of hemlock pine. When we moved in many moons ago they were covered in a dark, ageing varnish but my Editor stripped them all, then stained and oiled them beautifully. As there's 99 of them it took her a while (and probably almost took her sanity - oh no, that went some time earlier when she agreed to marry me!!).
