The Lighthouse

After two days of rain and mist. we briefly saw a little brightness this morning. My photograph was taken from the breakwater at Mountbatten, looking across towards Plymouth Hoe. For a few minutes the weak sunlight illuminated the waterside buildings. The lighthouse on the Hoe is Smeatons Tower. It was originally located on the Eddystone Reef, 14 miles south-west of Plymouth. It was in use from 1759 to 1877, until erosion of the ledge it was built upon required a new lighthouse to be built.
