Snow

The forecasters have been suggesting it might snow this weekend and we woke up this morning to falling flakes and undisturbed pathways that, by the end of the day, would be slush. At this moment, they looked like they’d come straight off the front of a Christmas card.

Later, as we took our daily walk, we passed families building snowmen and throwing snowballs. It was a remarkably normal winter scene. I suspect that snow brought a little bit of relief to families who have been struggling to find new ways to entertain little ones at home even if it was only for a few hours early in the day.

Social media was full of people posting pictures from all around the country - some have a lot more snow than we are seeing in South West London. My brother sent a picture of my nephew sledging down a hill alongside views of snow covered hills in Scotland. Somebody on the radio suggested that it had not snowed in London for five years, but I found pictures from 2018 and snow on the pavement outside my house, so I think memory is playing tricks.

Isn’t it lovely when it first falls? The forecasters are saying there may be more next week.
