Cloud bank

There was an interesting cloud bank sat across the hills while I was out for my walk. I didn't take my usual route to the next village today as the pavements were still covered in frozen snow and looked a bit treacherous. The roads are always fine, cleared and gritted constantly, but with few people using the paths they are not so good. Unfortunately the stretch of road into the next village, has a few quite blind corners so it's too risky to walk in the road in parts, although I know some do. Instead I took the Seddling Road which we all call the back road. This would take me to the village the long way round but I didn't go that far knowing I would just have to do the pavements in the opposite direction. The back road had been gritted but there was still quite a lot of frozen snow in parts; there are no pavements this way, just verges, so I walked on those where the road was a bit tricky. It was all up hill on the way out until I got to the field where I took the photo. The photo doesn't really do the scene justice, it looked like a snowy tapestry. It's times like this when I wish I knew how to take better photos. None-the-less it captured the moment. Walking back down the hill I felt a little less steady, apart from the extra effort involved I always prefer to walk uphill! I only saw one dog walker and was passed by just one car. The quiet and the stillness was very enjoyable and a welcome break from constant phone calls and messages.
Mum had her first full day at home. The care package seems to be working, although 11.30 for lunch and 4.30 for dinner was a bit early but mum is happy to adapt. She's fairly exhausted doing even the smallest task so is more than grateful for others  taking care of her. My DIL fetched her a basket of food with essential milk and bread and a few extra goodies. The lovely Mandy who has cleaned for mum for quite some time now, and shopped for her more recently, is going back in next Tuesday. She will also be doing all mum's washing for her from now on too. Mum feels she is more like an old friend than a cleaner.
I had a lovely FaceTime call with my two littlest granddaughters this afternoon. They are such cheery children, 2 and 4, and we had lots of laughs for about half an hour. They informed me that they were then going to watch Mary Poppins while daddy cooked the dinner.
I cooked a vegetable stew with jacket potatoes for our dinner and also baked a fruit cake. Another episode of Farmer's Country Showdown and the Great Pottery Throw Down was a pleasant way to spend the evening!
