Royal Star and Garter

L3 Day44 A trip round Richmond Park and past the Royal Star and Garter Home. The site is the location of the former Star and Garter Hotel which closed in 1906 and was then used as a military hospital during WW1. The site was donated to Queen Mary and the present building was constructed and opened in 1924 as a home for paralysed and permanently disabled servicemen. As the building could not meet modern requirements it was sold in April 2013 and converted to luxury apartments. Three new homes have been opened in Solihull, Surbiton and High Wycombe.
