Mist beyond the Rocks

The day started wet and cold. The temperature began to rise fairly quickly and that's why we probably got the mist and fog as the water began to evaporate.

We decided to escape the constraints of Shepshed and drove to Beacon Hill, 10 minutes away. Basil can run free to his heart's content and also interact with other dogs. As we left Shepshed, the fog was becoming dense but cleared abruptly by the time we crossed Hunts Hill crossroads.

Once on the hill, we could see the fog covering the Soar Valley, shifting to and fro between groups of trees as the land climbed upward. It's always a magical sight. While taking a photo, I heard someone say, 'That's Basil! And if Basil's there then so must Sue.' It was Margaret, who I haven't seen for ages, with her husband Michael. Good to see them. They normally walk by the canal but it's just too wet at the moment.

Len, Basil and I resumed the metalled path and walked round the top of the hill, striking westwards over the green sward once we reached a path. We didn't really want to have to walk uphill again from the bottom car park.

The mist had almost all gone by the time we were about to leave.
