A Cold Sea

By February the first signs of Spring are emerging, but by the coast the wind is fresh and the sea is cold. The waves roll in relentlessly and crash against the dark rocks at Wembury Point. Offshore against the weak winter sun stands  the silhouetted form of the Mewstone. Nobody lives there now, but in 1744, a local man found guilty of a petty crime was sentenced to stay on the island for seven years!
