Banana Loaves

Rainy and overcast again. Just as I write that it reminds me of a promise I made to myself not long after I moved here about twenty years ago. Because this is a fishing community with some strong seafaring traditions, when I would meet a “local” of middle age or older the chat would always turn to the weather. Their livelihoods were dictated by the sea, hence the weather had enormous significance for them. Now I find myself doing the same. Is it because I have nothing else to talk about at the moment or is it a way of avoiding the Huge subject of the pandemic. Or am I becoming a Local?
