The Vine Inn

Had a wonderful trawl round my home town of Wolverhampton in glorious sunlight today. The history is often too much to take in. The detail in this picture is part of a wonderful frieze around the building currently known as The Hog's Head pub. It was built in 1885 to house the Staffordshire Regiment, was later put into use as offices, later became the Vine Hotel and changed again in the 1990s. I will need to spend more time investigating but a tremendous amount of construction occurred in the late 1800s which suggests a mini boom around that time. The sheer scale of architectural wonders in and around the city centre is very impressive. The history is thoroughly absorbing. Can't wait to find out more.
