At the Tide End?

L3 Day 52 - Another circular walk around South Teddington passing two old pubs; apparently a local history group has found evidence of 28 pubs in Teddington over the years! The Anglers has gardens and a landing stage by the River by the Teddington Footbridge this pub will have been providing sustenance for anglers since 1853.The Tide End Cottage , in the blip, is on Ferry Road, again very near the river and dates back to 1820 and is across the road from the location of Tough’s Boatyard. It has been suggested that the derivation of the name Teddington was ‘Tide End Town’ but this is a 19C idea and is unlikely to be correct as the village had been called either Totyngton, Teddington or Teddington since Saxon times and the tide did not end here until the Lock was built. The first lock in 1811 and a replacement lock in 1858. The Anglers is now a Fullers pub and owned by Greene King.
