Family history: Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest

Going through family photos today, M showed me this photo of his uncle Percy taken at Hitler’s hideout, the Berghof, or Eagle’s Nest high up in the Bavarian Alps.

Uncle Percy, a major in the army, was with an American army lead force when they checked out the Eagle’s Nest.

Hitler spent more time here than anywhere else during World War II, other than the Wolfsschanze (“ Wolf’s Lair”) his headquarters in East Prussia for the invasion of the Soviet Union.

After the war Uncle Percy joined the police force and was tragically killed when his police car was in collision with a potato wagon.
